Manufacturing of Tiles
The raw materials used to create tiles are all found in the ground. These raw materials, like clay and talc, are quarried and refined. When they are mixed, great care should be followed because each material is critical to the success and good quality of the product. Once the materials are properly mixed, the tiles can then be formed. Some of the most common means of forming tiles are dust press and extrusion. The former is used to create ceramic tiles only. Here, a dry mixture of clay, talc and other ingredients are pressed into a mould, and then fired at an extremely high temperature. Extrusion, on the other hand, can be used to form other types of tiles. The ingredients used in this process are slightly wet. They are forced through a nozzle, which forms the tile’s shape. Other methods of creating tiles are slush mould and beehive kilns.
